Overview
This workshop examines the flow of meteorological technology and instruments from Europe to East Asian regions. Drawing upon archival materials of, for example, observatories and meteorological stations, as well as meteorological instruments in public and private collections, the workshop aims to demonstrate the instruments’ impact on the everyday life of people living in China, Hong Kong, and Japan from the late-nineteenth century until 1950. Other possible issues covered by the workshop include the development of meteorological forecasting for military purposes in the three regions during the two World Wars.
