Overview

The Project “Making Modernity in East Asia: Technologies of Everyday Life, 19^th – 21^st Centuries” (MMEA) has started since June 2017. Prof. Angela Ki Che Leung (HKU), together with a team of fifteen scholars in the humanities and social sciences, aims to establish a new, disciplinary way of understanding East Asian modernity through lens of everyday technology. Plenary Conference 2017

There will be a public keynote, a closed-door panel meeting on themes of infrastructure, everyday technology and East Asia as a region, and a meeting with advisors and partners.

09:00 - 17:00	Exhibition Preview In association with the conference, an exhibition preview of “Infrastructure Imagination: Hong Kong City Futures, 1972-1988” will be held at the Multi-purpose Room, G/F, May Hall, HKU on December 7. Curated by Dorothy Tang and Cecilia Chu with Christina Lo, Maxime Decaudin and Sben Korsh. “The exhibition revisits infrastructure projects in Hong Kong from the last four decades. It features photographs from the Heather Coulson Photograph Collection, which have been donated to the HKU Libraries by Heather Coulson, a construction photographer who worked in Hong Kong between 1972-1988. It weaves together personal stories, historic films, oral histories from professionals and community members, and archival records that document the construction boom in Hong Kong in the last quarter of the 20^th century. The public exhibition will open in March 2018”.
